Resident DJ at the Reno Nightclub from 1967 to 1984, Persian was responsible for shaping the music that made the Reno the most popular soul and R&B venue in the North of England, until it was demolished in 1986.
Persian also worked as the resident DJ at Smokies Nightclub in Oldham from 1974 to 1976, where the musical style was middle of the road stuff. He worked as resident DJ at England's first non-alcoholic nightclub (Sobers) in 1978.
Persian's career as a disc jockey started at the tender age of fourteen, playing at teenage parties and high school proms in Eastern Kingston, Jamaica where he grew up. His love for American soul and R&B music started way back then. He became a keen listener to radio stations broadcasting out of South American countries such as Peru and Ecuador, these stations played the best in soul and R&B music to come out of the USA during this period.
The most popular of these stations were W.R.U.L and W.I.N.Z.From these early beginnings, Persian developed his laid-back innovative style and passion for mid-tempo music and due to it's innovative qualities, Persian always refers to his style as underground soul.
